An EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) post earlier this month caught my eye. The post discusses issues with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act that the EFF says “threatens people’s ability to repair their own cars and protect them against malware.”
Given the current trend toward ‘smart’ vehicles reliant more and more on automation and networked systems, it seems there may be a growing gap between the consumer’s understanding of “ownership” and the law.
It will be interesting to see how this unfolds. Will auto sales involve disclosure regarding DRM (Digital Rights Management) in the future? How will the business model change as we approach smart, self-driving cars?
Mahalo for visiting.
