I see a lot of stories these days about jobs that could be at risk in the future due to advanced automation, computer technology, and the rise of the robots. I have noted, that these articles and stories seem to have a bias. It’s common for academics to write about robots taking over jobs in many sectors of the economy, except academia, and the journalists normally don’t write about machines putting them out of work.
Personally, I doubt that there’s a list out there without a bias. I have also mentioned some of the ways government is fostering the rise of the machines. You probably won’t see a PR spot on TV anytime soon touting how the rise of the machines is supported, or sponsored in part by our government, but it would not be any further from the truth than Al Gore’s claim about the Internet.
Of course, our politicians do not seem to be the least bit interested in our views on the rise of the machines. Technological Unemployment does not seem to be a topic politicians want to have any legs in 2014 or 2016. I can understand that, given the government’s involvement in promoting and sponsoring the rise of the machines.
The politicians won’t ask. I will, using my own biased list:)
